A little while ago my sister told me about these braided scarves and I decided I had to make one. They were actually pretty easy to make and I think they are so cute.
To make:first. Get 70 inches of jersey knit fabric. I made the blue scarf with a cotton jersey knit and I actually thought it was a bit heavy. I like the single knit better.
second. For the non braided scarf: Cut two rectangles 31 in. x 14 in. Sew along the top and bottom (the 31 in. side). Turn the scarf right side out and then sew the 14 in. sides together, the seam will be exposed but that's ok because you will cover it later. In the picture below, the top and bottom are sewed and the two sides are open.
This is what the non braided scarf looks like when done. See how the one seam is exposed.

third. For the larger braid: cut a rectangle 70 in x 12 in. Then cut it so that you have three strips that are 4 inches wide. Leave about 2 inches at the top so that it is a little easier to braid it.
fourth. For the smaller braid: cut a rectangle 70 in x 6 in. Then cut it so that you have three strips that are 2 inches wide. Leave about 2 inches at the top so that it is a little easier to braid it.
fifth. When you are done with the braids, sew the ends together so that you have a large braid loop.
sixth. Cut a very small rectangle about 6 in x 3 1/2 in. Fold over and sew the edges of it. This will cover all of your seams.
seventh. Double the braided loops and set on top the other non braided scarf. Line up all of the seams and then wrap your little rectangle around it and then hand sew it on. I made sure to hand sew it good enough that the braids were in place and won't rotate around.

Holla! We're your newest followers! :)
omg this is the cutest scarf ever. def guna have to make this!
ReplyDeleteYou inspired me! I loved the idea of braided fabric in an infinity scarf, so I used a t-shirt and then braided the long sleeves. I love your colors by the way :)
ReplyDeleteWhat would we need to do to make it longer?
ReplyDeleteJust add a couple more inches to the length of the pieces of fabric before you cut.
